There's been a change in the weather...I went outside this morning and my fingers were cold and numb within seconds of starting chores!!! With the 30 degree weather we've been having, it was downright balmy out, and I could go outside without having to wear a heavy coat for brief chores or to check the mail. I removed Suzy's red coat last weekend, and she rolled and rolled in the deep snow to banish the itchies! She's been coat-less for a week now, but, guess what???
It's "BLANKIE" time again! The weather reports tell us that rain is on the way...time to batten hatches, button overcoats, and heat up the critter water!
When it gets so cold out, I have to check for eggs a few times a day, ensuring they don't freeze. Once I found an egg that had frozen, and it had a large crack from stem to stern - the entire egg inside had frozen solid, and with not enought "head space", it had burst the shell! What a waste of a beautifully formed egg - and the hen had decorated it with little speckles, too! So sad.... I believe we've had what we call "the January Thaw", but it's back to the The Deep Freeze till spring!

We have ICE here this morning.
Hey, I LOVE that little shelf (or is it a stool?) with the three houses and two lambs that I see right here in your sidebar.
LOVE that.
Monica,
This is such a cute post.
Love the look on the chickens face.
Never even thought about eggs freezing!
Thanks for coming by for a visit.
blessings on your Thursday!!

I love that overcoat and I love how you love your furbabies:)
So goes country living in Michigan!! Ice storm here today...winter...will it ever end?
And here in California it's rain, rain, heavy wind and more rain...
I can't imagine weather so cold it could freeze an egg. Amazing!
At least you beautiful horse got to roll and scratch the itches for a while before the red coat had to be worn again.
Hey Monica!
Suzy looks beautiful in her red coat! I'm sure she is happy to wear it in this cold weather. She almost could pass as Little Red Riding Hood! hehehe
I had never thought about your eggs freezing in the cold weather! That's wild!
Hugs,
Angela
We aren't cold in Ar. but the grey days sure get old. I miss the sun, your post picked my spirits up though!
Hi Monica!
I thought we were supposed to have a warm spell here in Michigan. yesterday morning Troy and I had to head downtown Detroit and had to park a million miles away from where we were supposed to be (we totally forgot that the Auto Show is going on!). I thought my face was going to freeze off from the cold and the biting wind!!
So it's getting cold again.
I'm glad to be back too buddy - missed yah.
It rained in souther Callifornia and we got some snow as we drove through the desert a little bit.

I am so very glad to see that you have a coat for "Susie"...I drive by local farms and see the horses without any sort of protection and it breaks my heart!
God Bless You!!
Stella the Fluff is very impressed by Suzy the Horse's red coat. Now she thinks SHE should have a red coat. But I pointed out that she really doesn't need one since she has her own fluffy coat. So then Stella offered to send all the fluff that gets brushed out of her every day to Suzy to help keep her and the chickies warm. She's so generous that way...
