The Wheels on the Bus go Round and Round - But not for me....

Those closest to me know I've been SO looking forward to a job as a new hire, driving school bus for our local school here in our small community! The perfect job, perfect pay, and soooo close to home! I lined up my physical and finger printing for today, and I arrived for the DOT physical and drug test on schedule.

Of course the doctor was NOT on schedule. I waited - nearly 2 hours, and I had the fingerprinting scheduled 2.5 hours after my physical, thinking for certain that would be enough time! NOT.

I passed the physical in flying colors. However, I was informed that because I take insulin once a day, that automatically disqualifies me from receiving a license to drive school bus or anything other than my own vehicle. Out of frustration, I started to cry. You can understand that I've struggled for 2 years trying to find employment, begging for interviews, asking to work for FREE (and getting rejected even for THAT) - it has been so hard! The doctor asked, "Do you harbor feelings of guilt?" "Do you have trouble sleeping at night?" "Do things seem to move in slow motion, or too rapidly, in daily life?" "Who is your family doctor?" I looked at him incredulously! He then said, "I must inform you that we have contacted an ambulance service to transport you to a Suicide Prevention Treatment Center, and we will contact your personal physician..." You have never seen a person change from an exam gown to street clothes so rapidly! I left that Occupational Diagnostics Center, elbows flinging away their grasping fingertips, before they could hit the facility lock-down button! Imagine that! And, as I drove away, the ambulance was pulling up to the main entrance!

What started out as a wonderfully happy day filled with anticipation of a new direction in life, new employment, and a fun filled afternoon soon turned into an outrageous nightmare! I suppose the old adage "Don't count your chickens before they're hatched" still rings true. And another caveat to remember: Never show any emotion at a medical facility!

What Can Happen NEXT??

First of all, I am sooo sorry about the job. I KNOW how hard you've been working to get a job.

About the other, as the wife of an ER medical provider, I can't even imagine. You're sure all you did was shed a few quiet gentle tears? 'Cause if so, this certainly does sound like an "over kill" reaction - - - pardon the expression in the light of the context of this post.

Can't a person express disappointment and loss over something that was so anticipated, so grateful for, so excited over???? You...had a real, real poopy day. If ever, you deserve something good to happen, today is the day of infamy making you deserving of one. Good God Almighty! Who knew that the events that unfolded today would ever, evah happen??? Move on dear girl...you know that you're about the coolest chick ever in the blog coop! We know it, you know it, Mr. W knows it, your horsies, corgis and the hen girls all know it.
God, must....have another plan for you. Don't despair!!! hang in there. Hugs....and I'm mad for you!

OMG - I am so sorry. Da-n it - and I don't swear too much but that ticks me off!

I am so sorry - so very sorry.

They might have asked you at the beginning about the insulin - tell you if you have this or that - it disqualifies you.

They so over reacted. My goodness those idiots.

I am so very very sorry dear friend.

That was totally AWFUL for him to treat you that way. I know it was very disappointing for you. They have the same rules here, and that's why I didn't get to be a bus driver for the special ed. kids.

As you know, I live in CA, and I feel that the Lord got me out of working in the public school system because of what is going on there, so I'm sure that He is doing what is best for you, there too, though sometimes we wish we could see all that He sees so that we could understand better. Sometimes, though, He just wants us to trust Him so that our faith can grow when He finally does do the wonderful thing He is planning for us.

That's awful! I feel really horrified and outraged for you! Cripes, talk about over the top. So many seem to be too overly concerned about health issues. They probably called the ambulance to make sure they'd have no liability. In other words, covering their own butts. I hope that another opportunity, a much better one, pops up soon!
