I recently received an award from Cindy for having what she considers to be creative blog. Thank you Cindy!
My blogging began only this year - I have less than 250 posts to my credit. Love of God, Mr. Wonderful, nature and of course, my adopted Welsh Corgis has been inspirational to my writings. People have told me that I should write down some of my stories, and Corgidogmama and Penniwig gave me guidance and technical support in my blogging journey. I've met some amazing friends in Blog-Land, and the journey continues, as life is an adventure in learning about ones-self and the world outside.

Hmmmm. Let me think about this for a moment.
- My name, Monica, came about because my dad saw a little girl on The Art Linkletter Show whose name was Monica Marie McCloud. He thought the name Monica was so beautiful, that his 'vote' counted more than my mom's - she wanted to name me Elizabeth!
- Any artistic ability I lay claim to, I owe to my mother. She taught me how to paint and do charcoal drawings. She never discouraged me from my creations, even when I made tons and tons of carnations out of kleenex! When the kleenex ran out, the toilet paper was not far behind in doing the disappearing act! Imagine blowing your nose and wiping your bottom with CARNATIONS!!! So delightfully sweet!
- Love of horses began for me when I was about 4 years old. I recall talking with dad by the kitchen sink about horses....he explained to me how to turn a horse right or left by using the rains. He was instrumental in fueling the fire - he signed me up for riding lessons when I turned 11 years old - it was part of my birthday present - and one of the best things he could have ever done to boost my self esteeml. I was painfully shy, and thought I could never do anything right. Mastering horsemanship made me feel on top of the world, and gave me something I knew I could do well.
- Most of what I know about animals comes from owning various creatures. I've had everything from turtles, to mice, to hamsters, to guinea pigs to cats - guinea hens, turkeys - ferrets - you name it, I've probably owned it. If they got ill, I would find a way to doctor them up, taking only serious cases to the vet.
- For Biology during Sophomore year in High School, we were required to catch a frog for dissection. I caught a frog, and kept it in a coffee can. I took care of it every day, finding food for it, and playing with it. It got sick a week before the dissection class...I figured out what was wrong, and cured him. His name was "Frigg" (don't ask why - I don't know!). I had no heart to cut him up, so when he regained his health, I released him into a pond...told the teacher a lie, that I could not catch one. She made me 'pair up' with other students who DID have a frog to cut up - she wanted us to see their beating hearts, so they were knocked out and still alive. It broke MY heart, and I was glad I had chosen to let Frigg go.
- As a Senior in an all-girl High School, I was an active 'prankster'! A group of us young ladies would "volunteer" to show Exchange Students around our campus, charging them a small fee of $1.00 to have a viewing of a private swimming pool normally accessible ONLY by the Dominican Sisters. We would take them down to the gym (a basement location, truly), and there was a door that led into the boiler room where trunks full of costumes were stashed for plays done years ago by young ladies aspiring to be nuns. Everyone would have to bend low, to avoid hitting the steam pipes on the low ceiling, and silently creep past where the janitors would take unauthorized naps....then after following a winding path through the pipes and old furniture props, we would approach a sturdy iron ladder leading to a huge tunnel, 15 foot in height. It was there that we collected our money, and pointed the way up the ladder and turned the Exchange Students loose to go swimming...and in actuality, it was a tunnel that led to the 'above ground' glassed in POWER HOUSE of the entire Academy! No doubt, we were shrinking when our names were called over the loud speaker the next day, to report to the Principal's Office!!!
- Throughout the years, I have worn many 'hats' in the working world - waitress, key punch operator, chief baker at a small bakery in Illinois, harness horse trainer, cook in a hospital, chiropractic assistant, bank teller, New Business Assistant in the bank's Trust Department, electrical coil winder in a factory, made air filters in Illinois, Restorative Nursing Assistant for physical and occupational therapy, Rec Therapy Assistant in Long Term Care, prep cook for Moxie's Restaurant, Hotel Maid, Hotel Laundress, kitchen help in a retirement community, and Admin. Assistant for the engineering department at an injection molding plant. All of this, and I have not been able to find a job when laid off last Thanksgiving! Go figure!
