Vintage Thingie Thursday

I love Vintage and Vintage Style Advertising - and here's a few you might enjoy! I love the one below - It has the vintage flavor, with added humor of modern day thoughts!!!

The item I've chosen to include today is something very unique and delicate - a hand embroidered pillowcase. A simple item, commonly decorated by women of yesteryear to feather their nests during baby's nap time, or while watching a favorite soap opera....

This design is of lotus blossoms and lilly pads - the colors remain bright and the stitching is all intact - I spied it at an old re-sale shop. It seems a shame to put a price tag on the time invested creating this work of art!

Flawless stitching, so painstakingly created! She added the lace edging by hand, and even the hem was hand-stitched ever so carefully!

Here is a view of the back side of her labors - she even stitched a tag with initials inside. Was this for a home economics class? A County Fair exhibit? Or for her own use at home? Simply lovely!

For more postings of vintage items, please visit our host, Colorado Lady, where you'll be certain to see some very unique items! Happy VTT to You!

I agree...Such workmanship to be discarded. I love them too, I guess you could tell by my post today. This one is very pretty, and I love the colors and design...but the initials is such a sweet bonus. Have a great week and Happy VTT.

The pillowcase is just lovely! The hemming is beautiful...I just embroider on purchased pillowcases-she totally made the pillowcase too!

Did you and Suzanne collaborate for today! LOL! They're beautiful. I feel if someone took the time to do the work, then someone should take the time to display them - glad it was you!

That pillowcase is fabulous. Some one took a lot of time and love with that.

Free cat and expresso - that will keep the kids off!

And tell me - 'some items' get more valuable with age - do we?

Someone sure took pride in their work--these pillowcases are lovely. Loved the sign. I started drinking coffee when I was a little girl. It was always brewing and my mother would give me a cup of half coffee and half milk. I love coffee to this day.

Chatty's asking a good question...we value everything old it seems, but our aging selves!
Aging women, especially, get pushed to the back of the line, traded in, and devalued in oh so many ways.
Love your signs, and those pillow cases are exactly what I look for at yard sales and thrift shops. Always love seeing them! Makes me think of Grandma, from Bay City, Mi.

Thanks for dropping by, the signs are just adorable. And your pillowcase is gorgeous. Amazing what they found to embroider. I never took to coffee but remember it as a special "treat" as a child. It was always with half milk. They would tell us young'ns it would turn us black inside. :0

Love those old signs.
Do you ever think about all the skills we lost when T.V. and computers took over our minds. Those embroidered pillowcases are beautiful. I have quite a few of these lovely vintage cases but I wouldn't know where to begin to do that kind of hand work.

Why would someone do that, toss aside all that love and work? It's sad to think of who and why..
but it's lovely to know that now it is loved :)
And the ads are cool too!

HOw beautiful--I have a friend who doesn't like to embroidery because it looks messy on the wrong side (eye roll!) But that looks just as beautiful!
