Vintage Thingie Thursday

Time for Vintage Thingie Thursday - Please visit Coloradolady's blog to read what the other participants of this meme have up for display!
I've been writing alot about my chickens, so no surprise I have another chicken item to show you today! I went to an estate sale, which had most exclusively, DOLLS offered for sale. Rooms and rooms of dolls - everything from babies to barbies to buffoons to Charlie McCarthy! In a seperate area, a small item caught my eye - CHICKENS! As always, please click to enlarge the pictures.
Well, not with HoMeR popping out of it, of course...this is how I discovered him this morning....A dispenser for wood matches - I believe you insert the entire box, after removing the top and end flap, so it can dispense easily? If anyone knows for sure, let me know. I couldn't resist this, and the chickens are lovely, in great shape. The original owner was definately a collector - the house was filled to the brim with costumes for dance recitals, dolls, and other eclectics. Pricey items, but very unique. It was fun to look, but this is the only item I walked away with - a little treasure!
Thanks for visiting today - hope you enjoyed my 'find'!

This reminds me of a project I did for an art class. I had a broken electric can opener and the back reminded me of Homer. I put a Homer Simpson Pez dispenser next to it, put both into a small wooden crate, and called it "Self-portrait by Homer Simpson."

I've never seen a match dispenser like that. I love the chickens, too!

Oh, I like yr match-house. My granny just had the matches in there loose. Opened the end like you said, but pulled the box out and the matches stayed, lined up...how cute that it looks like a chicken coop!

I don't know what it is either, but it's cute! Your blog is such a cheerful place to visit, and your dogs are so cute. Strangely enough, they resemble our beagles a little bit. Thanks for dropping by to see me today.

I used to have a match box holder like that, but without HoMer. You are correct on how it was used. Idoubt they are used much now as they have those fancy match holders for your fireplace. Happy to have you visit me today.

I love that match holder, but then I love anything with a rooster on it! Did Homer come with it for free?! In the past, I've used the box of matches where the lid slides off, so I would slide it far enough so that some matches could come out, and then put the box in the holder. Does that make any sense at all? Hope I've helped!

Love it, I have painted several of them with Chickens on them. You simple remove the lid and put the hold box of matches in it, there is usually a striker on the back or bottom.
You got a real treasure there.

Very cute match holder. These are hard to find, I'm still looking for one that I like. Seems like Homer likes it too!

Oooo, I love it. Little chickens are just too sweet. The match holders I have seen...somehow the top part with the "striker" thing is left on..so as to be able to strike the matches. Happy VTT..have a wonderful weekend.
