Vintage Thingie Thursday

I'm joining up with Colorado Lady for Vintage Thingie Thursday - please visit our charming host to join me and others who are showing off their vintage items today!
Lookie - Lookie - Lookie - Lou! Everyone knows I have a 'thing' for Chickens - and isn't this pitcher just GRAND??? Last weekend during our visit to my sister and brother-in-law's home, that dear lady said "Happy Birthday" and handed it to me! Well, it is a couple weeks early, but Mr. Wonderful had bought me a few decorative items for my birthday that weekend, and I'm not above accepting early or LATE gifts for ANY occasion! But THIS hen was SPECIAL!
I was told that she belonged to their mother, who has been gone now for many years. We could not find any maker marks on it at all, but it is clearly a handpainted ceramic pitcher, and definitely vintage. When I looked it over the next moring, on the bottom was lightly etched into the greenware before firing "Patented" blah blah blah "USA". I can't make out the entire lettering, but it looks to possibly read a person's name, perhaps Unabelle? She used to own a ceramics studio, and Mr. Wonderful helped clean greenware sometimes. So, I wonder.....
...what tales this bird would tell! The colors are bright, the gold is shiny, and her eyes are so very large! She needs a job after sitting idle for a while, and I have just the thing for her to do! Please come back for a visit tomorrow for GET R DONE FRIDAY - I'll be showing exactly what job assignment I have for this vintage ceramic hen!

I really like the hen pitcher. That was a nice gesture on the part of your friend to give you this vintage piece, especially since it was her mothers.

A gifted piece like this - Yippy Skippy! And being able to investigate its past - how much fun is that!?!

It's always nice to get a surprise - when you don't expect it - that means something to you - for an early birthday present.

An adorable chicken for sure! She looks like she has some copper or gold lustre on her which would date her to around the 50's or so! Can't wait to see her new "purpose"!
Cheers!

It's so fitting to think that you wonder the tales your pitcher could tell. That is what I think everytime I get a new vintage piece. What a lovely present for you!!!

Isn't she delightful? I just love the gold and color combination and her little face is so cute!
You're not really going to make her work, are you? That little missy doesn't look like she's worked a day in her life.
