Several weeks ago, I showed pictures of a lovely chicken cottage that Mr. Wonderful built for our 5 young hens. This fall they should be ready to start laying eggs, and they definitely adore their new home. They've begun to use the roost inside, which is high enough for them to peek out the insulated glass window to the great outdoors when the weather is lousy. I love their little home as well, and since Mr. Wonderful added the cute little shutters on the sides of that window, I have been planning to work some more "decorating magic" to the outsides of the REST of the chook cottage! In the pictures below, you can see what I've completed this week. As always, click on the pictures to enlarge.
First things first - SIGNAGE!

Next, a window box, complete with flowers AND flags for the 4th of July Holiday!

And, last but not least....."GASP!" WhazzzZAT?"
I guess they better get busy and produce some EGGS - - - or ELSE - - -
"The DICKENS, you say!"the MOTIVATOR!

I hope you have enjoyed today's post, and please link in on "Mr. Linky" below to join us, or click on the names to see what GET R DONE projects others have been working on!

Animal Rescue, and "Name that Weasel" Contest!

Most everyone that follows this blog knows that I adore Pembroke Welsh Corgi dogs - and what better proof? I own 4 active girls of my own! In a previous posting, I told about how they came to live with Mr. Wonderful and me, and of course I do show pics of them from time to time. They are my pride and my joy!
Paige - Adopted out in 2008
An animal rescue that remains dear to my heart is Lakeshore Pembroke Welsh Corgi Rescue. I have supported Lakeshore Welsh Corgi Rescue by fostering, and by donating a portion of the sales from my etsy shop, called ClassyChassy. Lakeshore has helped over 100 dogs find new homes last year, and this year so far, they have rescued around 80 dogs; currently 6 rehabilitated dogs looking for their perfect homes are listed on their website.
See video below, of a dog that was placed a while back - Cody was in a herding instinct test, and passed with flying colors!

With the economy as it is right now, from time to time, I take in small animals for people who have lost their homes and have to move into apartments which at times are not 'pet friendly'. I also have taken in exotics that have not received proper care, which happens when a person buys an animal on a whim- such as a chinchilla I recently re-homed- they think chins can eat rabbit pellets because they cost less and look the same as the pellets that are marketed especially FOR chinchillas; they do not realize that chins have special dietary and vitamin requirements, and even though the food appears the same, it is NOT the same.
My most recent guests? Ferrets needing a new home. The owners lost their jobs in an area that has lost 1/3 of the employers due to plant closings. This was not a small town, by any means! But not many businesses remain - especially any that have to do with the auto industry!
These ferrets were healthy and well taken care of. Their cage was clean and tidy, they had the correct food, no sores or bad teeth - they were friendly and happy! The only problem was that they needed to be gone, ASAP, due to the rental requirements. At times, I recieve a call, creatures just 'show up', or animals are given to me. Other times, I pay a little something to help the owner out of a tight spot. (And the good Lord knows, we've ALL been THERE before.)
Diesel and his side-kick will eventually be re-homed, but I do expect it will take some time, as they are 'exotics'; not many people are willing to give them the love and care that they need. I wish I could keep ALL the critters I come across, but that is impossible.... time-wise, space-wise, and money-wise! But I do help both people and animals where I can, IF I can. And I always do my best to see that they will have a better "tomorrow".

To enter the "Name that Weasel" contest, see Tuesday's post for details, and leave your choice of names! The winner will be announced on Friday!

Guess who's in MY tub And - Enter the CONTEST!

I am so fortunate - - Another of my big dreams has come true - **Weasels**! And, Mr. Wonderful was SO excited, he could not contain himself! (Ya - right!)
POP! Go the weasels, right into the tub!

Anyone up for a "Contest"? The name I chose for the male weasel below is "Diesel". I'm not up on the correct terms for the various color blends in ferrets, but he appears to be perhaps a sable? If anyone is versed in coloration of these creatures, please let me know! For the Contest, what I would like is a great name for the lighter silver colored female ferret. Her coloring reminds me of a Siamese Cat... See her pictures below:
As a prize for the best name, the lucky winner will receive their choice of 2 sets of blank note cards from my etsy shop! These can be ANY 2 sets - Corgi note cards, Rattie note cards, or even the personalized note cards with your pet's photo on them! Go to ClassyChassy and look at the paper products for current note card designs. The winner will be announced this Friday! So, put on your thinking caps, and reply in the COMMENTS section with a good name for Diesel's partner in crime! The name that tickles my fancy will win!

Amazing New Friends

Those that know me are aware of my fondness for all furry creatures! I have loved animals since I first realized what they were, and it mattered little what breed or color - I was ENTHRALLED with them ALL! Lakeshore Pembroke Welsh Corgi Rescue is a non-profit organization dear to my heart, and I have fostered for them as well as supported them with a percentage of the profits from the sales of creations from my etsy shop, ClassyChassy.

Through my love of animals, I have come to meet many interesting people who have adopted various creatures that I have rescued from different situations. Last fall I met a lovely young lady through 2 chinchillas that were ready for re-homing. Amy arrived at our cabin, and just 'glowed' when she met "Ben and Joey"! She had no chinchilla experience, but from talking with her and the woman who accompanied her, I just knew she would pay attention to their every need. She was moving into a new apartment, and loves animals (esp. dogs!), but dogs were not allowed. She got clearance with her landlord to have a small caged pet as a companion, and decided on something fur-fully exotic. She left our woodland paradise with an arsenal of care manuals, feed, bedding, toys, and of course, the 2 chinchillas!
The only thing I knew about her was that she was an animal loving college student, soft spoken, and seemed to have goals set for her life. She has sent me pictures and updates on 'the boys', and only recently graduated from college with a business degree. In her most recent email, the attachment contained information about an upcoming special program that she and a few others would be on. It aired last night and was called "The Other Breakfast Club". And now I know 'the REST of the story'! Watch the short video below, featuring this amazing young lady!
