Vintage Thingie Thursday - Farm Bowl

I'm joining in for Vintage Thingie Thursday at Colorado Lady's blog today - this is the day to showcase your vintage treasures and to share your special things with everyone. Anyone can participate, but please check out her blog for the rules!

I love this old farm bowl. It is absolutely HUGE, compared to other bowls I have in my kitchen. Admittedly, I wanted this for display only, but it sure came in handy for bread baking today, as I needed something large enough to hold dough for more than one loaf...
It worked out nicely for letting the dough rise, and was easy to clean right away. It is pretty heavy, and holds in warmth for the yeast to do its job. AND - the BEST part - the bottom says U.S.A. made! Too bad we have to look at antiques to find a bowl made in our country nowadays!
Thanks for stopping by - have a great rest o' the week!

I AM WAY JEALOUS!!!!!!!! That is a great bowl. And what is even better is it gets used, just like it was supposed to be used. I have seen a few at flea markets but they always have big prices on them, but I keep looking. Thanks for sharing.

I am terribly fond of old crockery, and this is a wonderful piece. I am sure it was well loved and am glad to see it continues to be!

Love your old pottery bowl. They sure do not make them like that anymore.

Oh, that is a great bowl! And PERFECT for dough rising! I love old crockery. My mom has collected a lot of nice pieces over the years and so it was something I grew up with.

Have a wonderful day!

Whenever Diann brings home a new treasure and I'm not sure what to do with it, I tell her it would be great filled with M&M's.

Well... That would be a whole lot of M&M's!

It would probably work good for bread dough too, I suppose...

What a GREAT old bowl! Is it made of that stuff they made the old pickle crocks out of? My grandma had some big old crocks that she made pickles in. I LOVE big old bowls and that DOES look perfect for bread.

I always look for USA on the bottom of old pottery, and find it mostly in Antique shops. I have three or four that were my husbands grandmothers and I'm sure they were used for lots of bread, cakes and other goodies. I'm impressed with your homemade bread...and your header.

Love those big bowls! I had one that I used to make tons of fruitcakes but it broke. :(

In french it's called a petrin (dough trough).

Oh lovely! I love a nice, big heavy bowl for mixing in (or even for putting my fruit in!)

I think that's called Yelloware and it's VERY collectable! I don't have anything that nice, but I do love my restaurant size stainless steel bowls for big batches of salads in the summer or bread making!

Well, you just look at it and know it should be used for bread dough. Awesome!

Hey Monica!

At first I thought your bowl looked like a wooden bowl. My eyes are going.... I love the size of your bowl! That is the size you need to make my zucchini bread in. I love stoneware type bowls but I don't have any.

How did your bread turn out?

Hugs,
Angela
