It's time for Tuesdays' Show & Tail'! Please visit our host, Angela, at West Virginia Treasures! If you have a cute story and picture of a pet, or any furry (or non-furry) friend, you are welcome to join in! Check her blog for the rules, post away - and thanks, Angela, for hosting a great animal lover's party!
It is spring, and time for the creepy crawlers to come out! One of the most common sights here in our Michigan woods is the Garter Snake. I'm not fond of snakes, but appreciate their beauty, from AFAR, that is!I come across these slithery friends when I least expect them - usually when I'm pulling weeds on a warm day, they will slide up rapidly from beneath one of the landscape rocks, or near our campfire pit in the yard. Very scary indeed!
When we first moved here, I was picking up rocks in our front yard and a Garter Snake zoomed up the outside of my pant-leg! It moved so fast that I caught the motion from the corner of my eye, and you can bet I was dancing for a moment, making sure it had dropped to the ground! UUUUUUKK! The thought gives me the creeps even today! Glad it didn't go INside my pant leg! That would be worse yet!!!
Once I had a chance to hold a giant snake at a pet store - it wasn't native to Michigan, I know that for sure - and it was bright yellow - about 5 ft. long. It was a "baby" snake, they said. The shop owner was taking photos of people holding it. When I picked it up, I was startled at how cool to the touch a snake's skin really is - and how I could feel the skeleton beneath that skin - I could have counted the bones, I'm sure! Pure muscle, and lovely colors and scales! A magnificent creature, but best appreciated from afar!

Hey Monica!
Snakes Alive! I would just die if I found a snake while planting flowers! The snakes we have around our yard are usually away from the house. Thank God!
I have never touched a snake and I hope to never touch one! Snakes give me the creeps!
Thanks for sharing your snake story with us today!
Tuesdays' Show & Tail!

This is certainly not something I want to find anywhere. I hate snakes. You really need to be careful. Thanks for your visit.
One thing for sure I do not like snakes. I am happy I seldom see any here and I certainly do not go where they are. You be very careful. Glad you stopped by for a visit.
I will give you the same comment I gave Angela - YUCK!

snakes-my biggest fear. i remember being chased around as a kid by a boy swinging it like a lasso. ever since they just creep me out! i need to grow up and get over it, for heaven sakes i'm 52 yrs. old.
Snakes and ants, oh my! The Orkin guy was next door rididing our neighbor's house of ants yesterday. I hope they all don't decide to come over here.
And I am oh so familiar with snakes from growing up in the dunes of Indiana where they were in constant residence during the summers.
It would usually be the family dogs that spotted them first and would bark their heads off until someone came by to see what they had cornered.
You never grabbed anything in the bushes without looking first. xo Joan@anythinggoeshere
Yes, they DO tend to make you move quite quickly when they suddenly show up! I can just see you skinning out of your britches if he'd gone up the inside of your pant leg! LOL I skinned out of my blouse in the parking lot at the grocery store one time without thinking when I got a Yellowjacket wasp down my back... Then I looked up and saw this little old man from our church looking at me and hurriedly put it back on (the wasp had flown off) Talk about embarrassing!
