Epicurean Kitchen Utensil Report

Have you wondered how the kitchen utensils I ordered last week panned out for me?

I received the "USA MADE" utensils very quickly. I placed my order Sunday evening on the Epicurean website, and Tuesday the Fed-X truck arrived to deliver it. The 2 items I purchased were nicely boxed in bubble wrap. One thing I was impressed with (besides where they were made!) was the fact that the sticker adhering to the back of the handles was easily removable - no scrubbing, scraping, and no need for "Goo-Gone"! Simply lift up a corner, and remove!

The spatula (or food turner) felt strange in my hand for a moment - I was used to the rounded handles on the imported plastic turners I've owned in the past. The plastic that comes in contact with the food itself is sturdier, and less flexible - a GOOD thing. But all in all, much better quality.
The spoon was a SURPRISE. I hadn't enlarged the photo to the fullest when I ordered, but there are 3 graduated lines inside its bowl, telling the measurements of liquid each section will hold! Pretty handy for gourmet cooks, or if you only want to spoon out 1/8 cup of gravy or chili - you'll know how much you are serving to keep a better calorie count.

I've been pleased with the looks, quality, and usability of the utensils, and clean-up is a breeze. They are dishwasher safe. The imported kitchen tools I owned had discolored from the dishwasher on the handle parts only, which leads me to wonder about the overall quality of plastics, and what could be leaching into the food as I cook. I plan on ordering more of the Epicurean products - well worth the money spent on quality kitchen utensils, well worth the money to keep our jobs in the USA.

Kitchen Utensils - Made in America

Looking for items made in the USA can be a challenge. I've been searching for kitchen utensils everywhere, for the longest time, and anything I do find are products manufactured overseas. The price is very affordable, which is why most stores stock them. Last weekend I finally decided to purchase some online from Epicurean. They are a little pricer than what the local stores have available (by about $4.00 each), but they ARE made in America.
For starters, I ordered the two utensils pictured here. The company uses recycled materials in many of their items. They are dishwasher safe, recommended for use with non-stick cookware, and a host of other great things about these products are listed on their site. Go look them up. You might just like their designs and other items offered for sale. I know I did!

Made in Michigan - Hudsonville Ice Cream

Hudsonville Ice Cream started when a group of local farmers who were looking for a better way to sell their dairy products banded together to form a new co-op. They chose a location on Chicago Drive in Hudsonville, Michigan, for this new venture, and in 1895 the Hudsonville Creamery was born.

In the beginning, Hudsonville Ice Cream was sold through local grocery and convenience stores, and individual dip shops located primarily in West Michigan. Over time, independent grocery stores gave way to regional clients, allowing Hudsonville Ice Cream to be sold in larger markets. Today, Hudsonville Ice Cream is available throughout Michigan, Ohio and Indiana.

Storms A-Comin'

We have no reason to take aim at our Michigan Groundhog - he was not lying! Recent weather reports a snowstorm headed our way, and in the vicinity where I live we can expect up to 10 inches of the white stuff! Daily highs of 25 degrees, and lows about 20. I predict MUCH colder!!!

The critters are fed, Suzy's blanket is snug and secure, and I'll soon be off to pick up more bags of corn to fuel the corn burner! The only fun thing will hopefully be new photo opportunities in the freshly fallen snow - I always look forward to that!

This past weekend Mr. Wonderful and I went sleuthing through a few stores to see what we could find in the way of cooking utensils made in the USA. We found NOTHING! All brands, major and minor, were made in other countries. On the internet I did find several hand crafted wooden tools, beautifully made, but if you want nylon/plastic tools, it is difficult to find a manufacturer in our country. Finally I found one. Epicurean. They have many different styles to suit most everyone's needs, and they even produce cutting boards. When reviewing their website, I liked what I read about them and their products. I just might be placing an order soon! Check them out!
