Welcome - Vintage Thingie Thursday!

Vintage Thingie Thrusday is hosted by Suzanne so pop over, say hi...and see who else is joining in the fun :))
My first item to show off is a 'man-thingie'! No, cleanse your filthy minds - THINGIE here means 'vintage thingie' - oh, never mind - you're in the gutter already, and there's no help for you! I'll just send you to The Olde Dame for a flailing! Any-Who, I don't know much about this decoy, except it is very old and hand painted, probably with a sponge or the edges of a paint brush. One of his eyes is missing, but his good one is glass. The bottom has a metal piece with a hole, to attach a string with a weight. The duck itself is weighted as well, and the head is attached with a dowel, so it can turn and be posed a bit. If anyone knows anything else about this kind of duck decoy, please leave info in the comments for me - I'd love to learn more!

My next goodie to show off is a clock given to me by my parents. It is a pretty clock, with wood veneer over the fancy shaped parts, and it has the original key to wind the works. The door to repairs and the pendulum is in the back of the clock, and I store the key inside, so it won't get
misplaced.

A neat thing that mom did to be sure that information would not be lost in time, or that an item would not be pushed aside as unimportant was to attach a written note describing the history of an item, the year, where it was purchased, and other interesting facts to the object. Because of her, I know this clock was made in 1884! I think that is a great idea for all of us to copy. We don't want something precious to be lost in time.....

Thanks for visiting - and thanks for your comments!

Well at first I was excited to hear that you had your Man thingy on display...lol...for ALL to see! I was a bit concerned coming over to visit...lol...still reeking of "old" sweet honesty cologne,I guess it smells like duck-do...not that I know what duck-do smells like...but trust me 34 year old cologne stinks! I love your clock...VERY neat to know the history from Mom! I have had my Mom mark all the "family" heirlooms at her house and the story behind them....GREAT IDEA! Happy VTT to you!

That's a well-used decoy fer sure.

The clock is just wonderful! What a good idea to have the history attached to these vintage items.

Love the little ducky, these old decoys are very popular in certain venues.
The clock is my favorite and just love the idea of writing the history of your items down. I need to do that, my boys have already said when Mom goes, all those dishes go to the dump...I'll come back and haunt each one of them if they do. I guess they need to know the history of each one...lol..Thanks for sharing.

Like Jane, the words man-thingie, perked me right up....
My dad, and his old bohemian brothers had duck decoys like this. Must be a Michigan man thing, as they all were too. We always kept it on the fireplace mantel.
To have a clock from 1884 is astounding! Ohhhh, you lucky duck, not a decoy one either!
Love these updated pics daily, of those 2 kooky guys....never know where they'll show up, and doing what, next...the suspense is killing me!

What a great idea to document the history of the stuff we want to pass it on. I'm not saying I'll be disciplined enough to do it, but it's a great idea. I really love the toaster picture with Homer and the chicken. How funny!

I love the decoy and the clock is wonderful. How wise your mother was to include all the information she had. I will most definately follow her lead. Happy VTT and hope you have a lovely weekend.

What man thingy? Where?
I grew up in the Decoy Capital of the US and our antique shops are flooded with decoys but I've yet to see one with like that. I'll copy the info and put in my purse and next time I'm in there, I'll ask about it for you!

Your mother was a very wise woman and I agree, we should all take heed. Without that, all those details would have been long gone..
Thanks for the tip!

Nice pun--getting lost in time.....Beautiful clock. And I also have a particular fondness for duck decoys, especially those missing one eye ;)

Duck decoy...awesome. So detailed and thought out, you know?

Love the clock because of how old it is. It is certainly "grand".
